What is Osteopathy
Osteopathy is Holistic
Osteopaths believe that the relationship between the structure and function of the human body has an important bearing on the health of the individual. We believe you are more than the sum of your parts! We know the importance of treating the whole person, not just isolated symptoms of pain or disease.
Osteopaths are highly skilled at observing and feeling (palpating) mechanical and postural restrictions that may be causing pain and reduced function.
Osteopaths use their hands to help the body to realign itself.
Osteopaths see “health” as a state of optimum function rather than just the absence of disease. We treat the structure of the body to improve its function – we evaluate and treat postural and physiological adaptations to encourage healthy movement patterns. As an experienced Osteopath, Gillian uses both Cranial and Structural Osteopathic techniques to tailor a treatment plan for her patient’s body and lifestyle.

Osteopathy – a Natural Therapy
Our bodies have an amazing capacity to heal themselves – Osteopathic treatment just shows your body the way to self-heal. Osteopaths use their highly skilled sense of touch during treatment to remove tensions that block the body’s own path to wellness, allowing good health to flourish.
No matter what is going on with your health, an Osteopath can probably help you to be a little more comfortable.
We don’t treat with drugs or surgery. Osteopathic treatment is safe, gentle and harmonic and can include joint articulations, soft tissue massage and joint manipulations where necessary. Cranial Osteopathic techniques are often used to help the body unwind and resolve poor postural and movement patterns. The Osteopath will always discuss your treatment plan with you. Gentle Osteopathic techniques are quite safe for all age groups: we treat the very young, the very pregnant and the very old.
It’s about helping the body to be comfortable and making sure every part is free to move.
