The first osteopathic consultation takes about 1 hour, the Osteopath will:
– take a detailed case history – please bring along any written reports of any scans and a list of any current medications.
– undertake a postural or biomechanical assessment and any other relevant orthopaedic or neurological tests
– examine you on the treatment plinth
In most cases we can provide you with a diagnosis and discuss your treatment plan with you and treat you with your consent. In some instances, and with your consent, we may feel it necessary to write to your GP or refer you to another therapist. Your health and well-being is our primary concern.
In order for the Osteopath to assess you properly, you will be required to undress to your underwear. Please wear sensible underwear – you can wear shorts or stretchy leggings/tracksuit pants. Please let the Osteopath know if you are unhappy about disrobing – we will always try to accomodate your needs at Hersham Osteopathy. You are most welcome to bring along a chaperone if it makes you feel more comfortable.
Subsequent, follow up treatments last from 30 to 45 minutes and will include a brief re-assessment of your osteopathic care plan.
